Accepted Special Sessions

As the results of an internal review process, the following proposals had been accepted for the Special Session at the RAAD 2020 conference.

Each organizer collects at least 4 to 6 papers for each Special Session. They will be reviewed similar to the regular papers and only the accepted ones will be published in the RAAD 2020 Proceedings. The organizer will be invited to be the Chair of the Special Session.

If the number of accepted papers is more than 6, papers will be allocated in two sessions. In case that the number of accepted papers is less than 4, the papers will be reassigned to the other regular sessions according to the topic.

You can submit papers in the following special sessions (listed in order of submission):

  • SS-01: Special Session on “ Italian Advances in RAAD Robotics “

Organizers:
Marco Ceccarelli, University of Rome Tor Vergata, Rome, Italy
Alessandro Gasparetto, University of Udine, Udine, Italy
Description:
The special session is aimed to present Italian contributions on RAAD robotics both with historical survey and new and new achievements. Invited authors invite discuss activities in their teams with relationship to the RAAD topics and community.

  • SS-02: Special Session on “ Cloud-based Robot Systems - CROB “

Organizers:
Theodor Borangiu, University Politehnica of Bucharest, Bucharest, Romania
Aleksandar Rodić, Mihajlo Pupin Institute, Belgrade, Serbia
Florin Anton, University Politehnica of Bucharest, Romania
Description:
Cloud services in robotics (CRS in short) represent an evolution of networked and service-oriented robotics control and computing models for a pool of reconfigurable and interchangeable items, and may access a shared pool of computing devices according to cloud computing (CC) principles in which case CC is part of the CRS model on IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) abstraction level.

  • SS-03: Special Session on “ Vehicle dynamics and control “

Organizers:
Basilio Lenzo, Sheffield Hallam University, UK
EfstathiosVelenis, Cranfield University, UK
Flavio Farroni, Università di Napoli Federico II, Italy
Francesco Timpone, Università di Napoli Federico II, Italy
Domenico Mundo, Università della Calabria, Italy
Description:
The vehicle of the future will be autonomous, electric and much safer than it is today. Several key issues are to be addressed to make that happen. The aim of this session is to discuss the state-of-the-art of current major challenges in vehicle dynamics and control.

  • SS-04: Special Session on “Advances in Human-Robot Interaction“

Organizers:
Tadej Petrič, Jožef Stean Institute (JSI), Ljubljana, Slovenia
Kosta Jovanović, School of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade, Belgrade, Serbia.
Description:
One of the recent research trends in robotics is how to enable effective and safe collaborative behavior of robots working with humans. Such collaborative setup aims to automate tasks that cannot be fully automated with classical industrial robots due to set-up times, space, costs and safety. This track aims at identifying major scientific and technological challenges, as well as the breakthroughs still needed to push forward robotic technology for human-robot interaction for the benefit of humanity.
The session will gather advances in robotic systems design, actuation and sensing, cognition, learning and control which will lead to safe and collaborative industrial, service and healthcare robots.

  • SS-05: Special Session on “Safety related devices and applications“

Organizers:
Giuseppe Carbone, University of Calabria, Cosenza, Italy
Med Amine Laribi, Université de Poitiers, Poitiers, France
Description:
Recently, the robots activities have been spreading into the care and homes. These robots are required to function in close vicinity to humans; therefore, they must be safe and be able to work in collaboration with persons. This scenario opens new challenges for service applications such as assistance, care and rehabilitation. It also drives research interest to novel approaches and solutions for traditional working contexts where safety has a primary role. To satisfy these requirements, robot joints are expected to be light and soft, and to have operating characteristics similar to those of the human behaviors.

  • SS-06: Special Session on “Assistive robotic devices, Fun2Rob project “

Organizers:
Abdelbadiâ Chaker, Ecole Nationale d’Ingénieurs de Sousse, Sousse, Tunisia
Juan Sandoval, Université de Poitiers, Poitiers, France
Med Amine Laribi, Université de Poitiers, Poitiers, France
Description:
Rehabilitation has become an essential phase in most of the care of patients with disabilities. These disabilities could be congenital or acquired, lasting or temporary, caused by accident or even following surgery to treat motor disorders caused to members.

Assistive robotics would help defining suitable mechanism for these rehabilitation tasks. Robots instrumented by actuators and sensors for optimal control and precise feedback to provide patients and experts with the necessary assistance in performing complex movements with multiple degrees of freedom in motion. This while allowing a suitable interaction with the medical environment and respecting the physiological constraints of the patient as well as the instantaneous monitoring of his biomechanical parameters.
Fun2rob is Tunisian-French project positioned in this context of research by aiming the development of a robot for upper limb rehabilitation.

  • SS-07: Special Session on “Industrial human-robot cooperation and collaboration

Organizers:
Andreas Müeller, Johannes Kepler University, Linz, Austria
Michael Hofbaur, Joanneum Research, Austria
Description:
The growing number of successful implementations of collaborative robots in manufacturing industry document their feasibility and the economic viability. This motivates to intensify further research and development of such systems. This session solicits papers addressing theoretical aspects as well as practical applications that are enabled through the integration of suitable sensor and actor technologies, advanced control algorithms, tailored modeling and simulation techniques, standardization aspects, etc.
